Loveless is Alice Oseman's 4th novel.
It was all sinking in. I’d never had a crush on anyone. No boys, no girls, not a single person I had ever met. What did that mean?
Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, never even had a crush – but as a fanfic-obsessed romantic she’s sure she’ll find her person one day.
As she starts university with her best friends, Pip and Jason, in a whole new town far from home, Georgia’s ready to find romance, and with her outgoing roommate on her side and a place in the Shakespeare Society, her ‘teenage dream’ is in sight.
But when her romance plan wreaks havoc amongst her friends, Georgia ends up in her own comedy of errors, and she starts to question why love seems so easy for other people but not for her. With new terms thrown at her – asexual, aromantic – Georgia is more uncertain about her feelings than ever.
Is she destined to remain loveless? Or has she been looking for the wrong thing all along?
Information about plot so Far Edit
18y/o Georgia feels loveless. She’s never been in a relationship or had any crushes, despite being obsessed with romance. But when a close friend confesses his feelings for her, Georgia starts to question her feelings and her identity… because maybe she just isn’t into guys. Or girls. Or anyone.
A strange and eventful first year at university, some interesting new friends, and exploring what it means to be both aromantic and asexual opens her eyes to the less conventional forms of love in her life as she learns that happiness doesn’t rely on you finding your soulmate.
At the centre of the story is not only Georgia, but also Pip and Rooney. Pip, a perpetual joker and Shakespeare enthusiast, is struggling to believe that she’ll ever find a girl who likes her back. Rooney, Georgia’s sociable and confident university roommate, would much rather spend her time on fun one-time hook-ups than pursue a relationship. The three girls, despite their very different experiences, have a lot to work out about their own feelings about love, sex, romance, and friendship… and how each other feel too.
Also alongside the emotional crises we also have a student theatre directorial rivalry taken way too seriously, a sexually-charged battle on a bouncy castle, various characters being adopted by the university Pride Society, a boy who has a passion for the live-action Scooby-Doo duology, and some large, magical gestures of platonic love!
