Oliver "Olly" Jonathan Spring is Charlie and Tori's youngest brother. He is a supporting character in Solitaire and Heartstopper, as well as a protagonist in This Winter.
Appearance
Oliver is short-statured with a small build. Like his siblings, Oliver has thick, black hair, dimples, and tan skin inherited from his father's side, though he has brown eyes instead of his sibling's blue eyes inherited from his mother. Throughout Heartstopper, Oliver has an occasional gap in his teeth from the loose of a baby tooth. As a young adult, Oliver is the tallest of the siblings, standing at least 6'1", and looks almost identical to Charlie, having a thin build.
Personality
Oliver is incredibly sweet, and is described by Tori as the "embodiment of joy" in comparison to her and Charlie being "miserable fucks". He is shown to be incredibly accepting of Charlie's sexuality, taking an instant liking to his boyfriend, Nick Nelson, impressed by his large stature and constantly climbing on him to hug him. His affectionate nature most likely stems from his youth and his older siblings facing mental health issues, though he shows maturity when he explains to his mother why she and Charlie fight.
Trivia
- In earlier versions, Oliver's eyes used to be blue.
- Oliver will start to take piano classes, later he'll get into musical theatre and start attending a youth theatre class. When he’s a bit older, he'll take singing lessons.
- He loves tractors and Mario Kart Wii.
- Oliver has a toy tractor named "Tractor Tom."
- Oliver wasn't initially added to the television adaption due to Alice Oseman not wanting to go through the painful process of finding a child actor, and instead had the Spring family have two children instead. However, on July 8, 2024, it was revealed that in the third season of the series, Oliver Spring will be "making a small but festive appearance" as the cousin of the Spring siblings, contrary to him being their brother in the comics. The character of Oliver will be played by Jensen Clayden.[1]
